karakorum highway by truck 4X4

Hello!

We would like to go from Lahore (Pakistan) to Kunjerab pass with our 4X4 truck.
We heard that the road is broken after Karimabad and now there is a lake, that we cross by boat...
Have you informations about crossing this lake with a 9 tons truck? Or is there another way to rich the Kunjerab pass?

Wawataï | Une famille, un camion 44, un grand voyage …

We have left France in August 2015 and we are now in Oman. We have to decide now if we go to India or not, depending on the Karakorum Highway... (the road between Nepal and Tibet is broken since the last earthquake.

Thank you for your answers which will help us!

Olivier.

There was a section that was slow going between besham and chilas when we were there in September/October. The road was full of holes and lots of roadworks but after chilas up to the China border was new Chinese road.

The tunnel was also open so no need to cross the lake with your truck. There are many local trucks that make the journey and the Chinese are investing in this trade route so it's only going to get better.

No need of boat crossing now as road has been constructed by multiple tunnels by Chinese at Attabab lake. I crossed these tunnels in November in my landcruiser. Just be aware that Islamabad to Chilas need armed convery by security forces.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
