Iran/Pakistan: Shipping parcel - Any experience?
Hello,

On my journey route simulation, I expect to reach the bike servicing checkpoint and tyre change about East Iran, possibly stretched over Pakistan. I really do wish to avoid carrying both new tyres (Heidenau K60 - Scout) along the first part of my trip, and therefor wish to prior send a parcel from home (Switzerland).

Anyone have some experience to share? hints? I believe there are import taxes and some formality to expect

I´d try to avoid sending anything to the countries mentioned, as I´d expect it to be both complicated and costly with import taxes, and BTW those K60´s they weight a ton!

(Never sent or received stuff in those countries myself, though...)

Hello,

I have some updated Infos, based on my own experience:

I decided to send my new tyres in Iran to Hossein, who provided me all needed information... that is.. his home adress. So, I packed my new tyres, went to post office (Swiss Post office) and sent the tyres the simplest way, that is.. economy parcel... yes... no DHL, no Urgent or whatsoever.

3 weeks later, the tyres were awaiting for me in Urmieh. I simply had to cover the import Taxes Hossein hat to pay, which is common formality.

That was it!

Furthermore... I realized my current tyres on the bike hasn't worn out enough in order to put the news ones on. So I decided to have the new ones sent further internally from Urmieh to Bandar Abbas, as I can easily go 3000 km on older ones in between. Again, Hossein and his network did make things very easy.

Things are easyier than I have thought, given some homework is done.

Hi Arkean,

just came across your post and wondering if you have some current information about Pakistan. I'm traveling towards Europe from Australia next year in May and will cross Pakistan is well. Just the Visa has to be sorted from your home country and you got only 6 month to enter. Being original from Germany and living in Australia I could apply on either side but from here I wont make it to the border in 6 month. My idea is what I was reading here to apply for it in Thailand and mail my passport with DHL registered to Frankfurt Pakistan embassy and the mail it back. Apparently that's the easiest way and safe they say??

Hello Mario,

Pakistan Visa should be applied in your home country. For my experience, they refused it, because of security reasons, as they knew I would be overlanding.

My learnings:

1. Avoid telling you are entering Pakistan overland. State that you will fly in and out. It seems, that enter / exit borders are not stated in the Visa. This statement needs additional confirmation

2. I know people who did send their passport in their home country in order to process visa. That works. The only problem could be if that they might require an interview. So best is to see if there is any Visa processing company which could do it at home for you.

On my experience, I had to to the interview for a friend who was already on the road (Skype video session works). But again, try not to state your are overland. The current situation in Pakistan seems to have a bit worsen... but I believe, there is no additional risk for travellers, as far as you abid to their security rules.
