India - Getting Visa at the Border

Hello,

Our family will be driving from London to Singapore, departing sometime in August this year.

We heard in passing that it is possible to purchase a visa for India at the border. I just wanted to ask if anyone on this forum has done this and if yes, would you mind sharing the details around it, e.g. how easy is it to do so, the cost, what documentation is required, and anything else that may be helpful.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hello Cincalok,
As far as I know is it not possible to purchase a visa for India at the border.
2 options. I was quite a few times in India.
Apply in England close to your departure and ask for 6 mnths. Validation starts on day one. or
Apply in Islamabad. Need at least a week, but you can use that time to travel around.
Special overlandercamping close to embassy area. Check in England if this is still possible.
Visa for Pakistan one has to abtain that in home country. When you are british, no problem, when you are f.i. australian, you have a problem.
When you want to stay in Singapore you better check the rules, when you like to continue to Australia, better ship from Malaysia.
Singapore is quite difficult and very expensive and campers are not allowed at all as far as I know

Safe travels

Hi,

I would be very interested to hear your routing for this trip. We are currently in Georgia but thinking of taking the Iran-Pakistan-India option.

thanks

Paul

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
