Crossing china in sept/oct 2016

Hello,
We are looking for other people to share the drive from Kyrgystan to Laos in september-octobre 2016. Idea is to take 30days but we are flexible and adding a week of two is a possibility. We are a family with 3 (young)kids. I have a few proposals from company's but since it's extremey expensive sharing the drive/the costs would be great...
Anyone interested?
Tine

Thanks Dave for your information, I'll take some more time tomorrow to go thru your site. Your post about having to get a second passport worries we though... We will be traveling for 6 months before entering China, didn't know that could couse a problem? I'll check it, seems like people are doing it all the time... We're riding a mercedes vario as well, still being build though...

China: Erenhot (Mongolia) - Mohan (Laos)

Hi Metz Family,

Apologies if this is a little late in terms of reply. I am currently looking to drive from Erenhot (Mongolia) to Mohan (Laos) mid August, although could move a week later if this were to help.

Please let me know if this works for you or anyone else in the forum, also keen to split the cost!

Alex

Hello Metz Family!

We are a french couple from lille looking to cross China from Kyrgyzstan to laos.
Are you still planning to do it?
What are your date?
We actually were planning to reach India through pakistan but we didn't get the visa so we are looking for crossing China instead.
Because of our India visa we would like to cross around august/September but it will depend on the possibility

Thanks a lot for your answer

I thought it was not possible to enter China with your own vehicle, is that right?

You can enter and ride in China with your own vehicle. But you need a government approved guide by your side, a government approved itinerary for the whole trip, government approved accomodation for all your nights, you need temporary chinese driving license and heaps of permits and red tape. Its expensive, very expensive - but it is possible.

China

Hi
I recently crossed from Myanmar/ China border to Erenhot/ Mongolian Border in a 4x4
You will need a guide to do china. I used Navo Tours China. They were great to deal with.
To be honest china without a guide would be a nightmare unless you speak Chinese

That's what I meant with "not possible", super expensive!

Do you have an estimation of how much a guide is, because I guess you have to also paid for the meals and accommodation of the guide...etc.
