Camping in Asia
Hallo!
Does anyone know if it is possible to camp during a MC journey from europe to south east asia. I mean the legs from say turkey to thailand. Is the any camping ground at all. Are they any safe. Or should I maybe leave the tent in europe och stay in hotels.

I've only been as far as Nepal, India & Pakistan. There are very few camp grounds and in some of them you don't want to stay. However, on our next trip we will take a small tent: sometimes you're on the road, it's getting dark and you can't find anywhere to stay. Happened to me 2 or 3 times in India & Nepal. I just found a spot to pitch my tent.
In '89 there was no budget accommodation in Islamabad, but there was a camp ground.
If you're heading into the mountains a tent may come in handy.
There was a good camp in New Delhi, full of overlanders, but I've read somewhere that it's closed down.

Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise,
Peter.

Hi! I would suggest you bring a small tent just to take advantage of the wonderful sceneries that kurdish part of Turkey will offer you: you can easily pitch a tent in the wild montaneous area (beware of the season though as it can get really cold - aside of the "wild" camping, and if you use the northern border to Iran (the one which is north of Van Lake, there are only two as far as I can remember), don't miss the camping which is in the very last city before you cross: wonderful view on Ararat Mont (Armenia), and VERY LAST s!! . From there to Thailand you will get few opportunities to do it "safely" in Iran & Pakistan, India will let you few opportunities to get undisturbed! (and accomodation as for pakistan is too cheap to camp) then Malaysia (if it is your route) and Thailand will offer great sites in organised structures. Enjoy!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
