Welcome fellow countryman
Hi Wolsly...Like you I live in Amsterdam and I have obtained heaps of useful information from the HUBB for my trip to Turkey in 2012. There seems to be an answer here for just about any question you might have...enjoy! My solo-trip to Turkey will take place in June and I wil do the first stage by Autotrein from Den Bosch to Livorno in Italy. I have seen more than enough motorways and Autobahns for my liking so this is a nice way to get around that first boring stretch. From Livorno I will cut across the boot of Italy to Ancona where I will board a ferry to Ingoumenitsa in Greece. Along the way I will camp (in the wild if needed) and when I´m really dirty and in need of a decent bed I´ll look for a simple hotel/BB or hostel. Once in Istanbul I might stay a couple of days in the Sultanameht area ( Blue Mosque & Aya Sofia sights) which is littered with small hotels and backpackers hostels. I will then head inland trying to stay on countryroads as much as possible. No serious off-roading for me because I ride a Kawa Vulcan cruiser which is ok for some gravel or hard surface mud/sand but nothing too rich! Depending on my time spent I will head back to Europe at one stage and I´m thinking of returnining via the West Balkans to Croatia where I can hop on a ferry again back to Ancona. I like to take it as it comes so I´m not quite sure how far east I might get..
Good luck with your planning and eventual trip, all part of the fun!!
Greetings from Mokum!
