Hello fellow travellers!

Hi there,

As some of you may guess from my screen name, I hail from the South West of England (Cider Country ), and I am in the initial stages of planning my own around the world adventure.

Like many who first come here I guess, I've loads of questions and lots to learn from those better travelled than myself, but that makes it all the more fun. I'm 35 years young, and so far my worldly travels have taken me to living and travelling in Japan, travelling through Vietnam, as well as the usual short breaks in Europe.

Alas, as yet I don't know how to ride a motorbike... which is really getting on my nerves (putting it very politely) but may be looking to at the very least getting a CBT before I set off hopefully around April 2015.

As I briefly mentioned, my grand plan is to head off around the world, and aiming to go overland the whole way. As yet I have rough ideas as to some of the places I wish to incorporate in my journey, but confess I'm finding the whole scale of the venture pretty daunting.

I shall try not to cover too much "old ground" by repeating posts that may have been asked a 1000 times already, but if I do, please forgive my noobiness!

Cheers folks - hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and New Years, and hope to chat soon! Happy travels!

Mike

Welcome along from an ex west countryman ( Glastonbury), and I`m sure you will find all the info and more that you need.

Just reflecting on your post and years gone by when we could just hop on a bike and zoom off, unfortunately times have changed and every country and border crossing in the world wants to see a full valid motorcycle driving licence.. Even in the U.k. you can`t pop across the channel with a learner licence, it`s only valid in the U.K.. Best to get on with getting yourself a suitable set of wheels and riding as much as possible. Not easy taking the test these days. But good luck anyway, and the quicker you get to grips with it, the more enthusiastic and less daunted you will feel.

On a CBT you can only ride a max of 125cc. Why not take your time and get a big bike licence then practice riding and then head out to the big adventure.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
