Hello All.

Figured since i finally started to check out the site i may as well make a account.

So far it looks like there is a ton of information iam going to enjoy finding and learning here, and looking / living vicariously through peoples trips / experiences as well.

Like most that find there way here i have aspirations of some long distance travel by motorcycle. My experience is low, only done 1 trip that may barely fit the bill a 3 week 4-5k mile trip in the united states. Iam starting to flush out a plane to at least ride down to Costa Rica but iam also looking into south America. I set / challenged myself to be on the road in 1 year or less with a ruff plan of taking at least half a year to a year and a half for traveling. Part of that prep time ive also set some daunting goals for my self as well such as learning Spanish, get much more off road experience (i have a lot but on 4 wheels only) and a big one is lose 80 pounds more. In the last 6 months ive already lost 60 pounds but still have a ways to go.

i currently ride a 1290 ktm sas but doubt that will be the bike i take on the trip just to heavy for off road.

For the last year ive been offering my house / spare rooms to travelers, only had less then a dozen or so take up the offer (bunk a biker and advrider tent space). Though because where iam located they have all been RTW travelers but has been amazing to get to talk know people living a nomad style life.

ok i need to stop ill go on and on if i don't, and this is just a hay what's up and to start getting my post count started as i know most people wont really bother talking / helping people that just have a couple post on most forums.

have a good day.

Hello My Lord

Welcome to the HUBB. As you have noticed there is a vast amount of information here and sources of inspiration. Like yourself I have been on a small trip - mine was smaller than yours, just 11 days and around 3,000 miles. As you have noticed a 1290 KTM is a little heavy for off road use for mortals. Oh, well done on losing 60lbs - no mean feat in its own right.

Where in America are you based? There is part of the site called “Communities” where there is the option to put yourself forward in much the same way that you have done on Bunk a Biker and ADVRider - if you click on the link above then there is more information and put far better than I will do.

Don’t forget that the only stupid question is the unasked one (apart from which oil / tyres etc which just starts a bun fight). If you want to up your post count then tell us about the trip you have done, review your bike, if there are relevant events coming up in your areas bring them to people’s attention - all of these add to the information on the HUBB and that aids us all.

Do you have any other name that you like to be called, other than my Lord? Also, is Ping in Washington state?

As I said at the start, welcome to the HUBB.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
