Smile Greetings from Vancouver, Canada

Hey gang! Been lurking here for a while but realized I never introduced myself.

I'm James; originally from Calgary but spent a couple winters in Mexico recently and have since landed in North Vancouver. I cut my teeth on an XR100 as a kid and have been exploring Alberta, BC, Montana, Idaho and Washington for two years on my Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, lovingly named Lucia.

I'm taking a big American West trip down the coast and back up to Calgary in May, and also plan to do the North Island 1000 in August. If the stars align, I'm aiming to take 6 months and travel from Alaska to Patagonia in 2025/2026.

I look forward to meeting everyone! You can find me at CanWest 2024 or on any given BC Ferry on the weekend

P.S. I'm so happy this forum exists and in this format (not as a sub-reddit, discord server, or other such enshittified internet platform). HU is a holdover of the internet from when the internet was comprised of small, passionate, independent communities. We've largely lost communities like this, so I want to extend my gratitude to Grant and Susan for keeping it alive and well.

Edit: Here's the route planning thread for my May trip: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...165-post641159

Welcome along to the HUBB.

I know what you mean about the information on here - it is an invaluable resource to us all and the blend of an old style information resource combined with modern technology is impressive - there is nowhere quite like it - others have tried but none have the information background that HU has. The time, thought and effort that Grant and Susan (plus others in the background and of course the moderators) put into the HUBB to build, maintain and curate this fantastic resource is greatly appreciated.

I hope that your trips in May and August are fun and successful - keep us posted.

New to Horizons Unlimited?

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
