Brit expat in Saudi Arabia.

Hey there everybody.

My name's Dave and I've been directed to this forum via Twitter as I've been trying to work out some details for a trip I'm planning on doing later this year.

But first a little about myself; I'm an Ex-RAF engineer currently plying my trade out in Saudi Arabia. I've been here for a couple of years already and I have a couple of bikes out here to use in the fantastic mountain roads in the area I live. First up is the bike I'm intending to ride from Saudi back to the UK - my 2016 Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle. It's absolutely perfect for this area as it's really good fun around the twisties and is more than capable of handling the desert and scrub I have on my doorstep.

I also have a Ducati 848 which has been owned by a few people out here, but it's really been well looked after. Thankfully I've purchased it VERY cheap with the intention of sorting it out over time before shipping it back to the UK to enjoy back there. I have a couple of bikes in the UK too - A go-everywhere-do-everything Suzuki SV650S and a special-rides-only Triumph Daytona 675R.

I'll be posting up about my trip home and asking for advice about the various aspects of planning the trip in another thread. I've never done anything like this before and I'm hoping to push the boundaries of my comfort zone and actually get out there and discover some new parts of this big, wide world we live in. Anyone who can offer some help, advice and assistance will be most appreciated.

Hi Dave,

Hopefully you still look at this thread.

Your journey is very similar to mine. I trust it went well and that you enjoyed it. I'd be grateful for anything you can tell me.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon:

I think he tried making that trip during the summertime, and died of heatstroke. (just kidding)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
