The New Destinations Page

The new Destinatioons Page on the site is a great idea and I have put quite a bit on there and intend on doing more.......
But, is there anyway to get all the points of interest (POI) in a list for your choosen country/area when viewing? Maybe there is and I need to change my glasses The reason I ask is...take Montenegro..I have put some places on there and some of them are quite close together i.e Budva and the Budva Bikers Bar, one is a place to visit and one a place to go for food etc and one covers up the other so unless you zoom right in you could miss one of the POI's. The same with Sarajevo in Bosnia.
I do see a list appear when I first click on a country then is goes to the map and the list disappears.
I think a list and a map would be good then it would diminish the chance of you missing out of information people are putting on there.

As an after thought..an editing feature for your own inputs might be usefull, unless again I have missed it, especially with me sausage fingers, then you could correct mistakes or add stuff where appropriate

Good idea, will look into it - we tried to keep the look very clean, but it can indeed get crowded unless you really zoom in, so yes, I think you're right, a sortable list would be good. Thanks! That's what we want to hear by the way, clearly explained issues and potential solutions/what you want to see, make it so much easier for us!

It will be a little while as we will want to do several changes at once.

You SHOULD be able to edit your own posts right now, but I will double check the permissions.
Are you on a phone, tablet or PC?

The "edit" tab is above the map, just below the title "Budva old Town" text. Please let me know if you don't see it.

----------------

Also please add a photo - I noticed that you pointed people to your Ride Tales thread, which is great, but a picture right in the post is even better for the purposes of "Destinations".

Remember the distinction between FACTS about the place, that's the POI info, and your experience of it, that's the "Your Experience" part.

Thanks for helping to make Destinations an amazing resource! We're looking forward to planning our own next trip with it!

Thanks Grant

I am pleased you understood what I was trying to say.

Yes I have now seen the edit tab, Ummm, just got these new specs too maybe they need a clean? I have used it on the Budva Bikers Bar to give it a test.

Ref the photos, I have looked at that and I will put some on eventully but I dont have then with me to upload as I work abroad didnt bring my HDD....Which leads me to another suggestion and again I could be missing something...I see that you can only upload files up to a max of 2mb. What about enabling it so you can do the links to to show the photos. The same as you can do when you are writing your RR's. Then you would be able to link straight to your photos in Flickr, Photobucket accounts etc. This way would also save your storage on the servers.

Thanks

Larger images ARE now possible, and remote photos we're working on.
Thanks for the feedback!

Wrong dates in 'add your experience'

Hi

Is there any way to change the date in the 'add your experience' part of the Destinations Page. I can seem to find a way to do it. My fault...for some reason I was putting 2013 instead of 2014, maybe my sausage fingers? Its in the Thailand part and I think there is 4 or 5 of them.

How is it going with making a list available as well as the map when you are looking at the country which interests you?

Thank you

Wayne

You've been very busy, thanks!

Changing the date - yes no problem - on the POI page, in the Experiences section, you'll see "Read more about loneriders experience..." Click that, and you'll get the "experience" page and the usual Edit tab at the top. Annoyingly it always defaults to "now" but it's easy to change, and time is irrelevant - until it's not.

List - that's going to be quite a while - we've run out of money for development for the moment, so it's all on hold. We'll get back to it but not right now. I'd do it but have no time, super busy getting all the events organized, and they have to be done NOW.

If you have any thoughts on EXACTLY how you'd like that list to look and work, remembering that there will be hundreds if not thousands of entries for larger countries, let me know. An example of something similar on the web would be great.

It always seems easy - until you actually try to do it...

thanks!

Hi Grant,

I've been looking at adding a few of my favourite roads to the Destinations page, a good piece of road is (in my opinion at least) something that I would want to plan a trip around. However, it seems like none of the categories really fit that well... could you consider adding a category for roads?

It was SUPPOSED to be in there already. I confess I'd forgotten about it, but will have another look, thanks for the reminder.
