Pleasing everyone - Absolutely impossible! And people are resistant to change too.
As for developers wasting time - remember that most desktop computers are 1366 or wider, and most people run at full resolution. So, while it's a waste of time on you, over 70% of our visitors are quite happy at 1280 resolution. And the part that matters the most, the content, is at 1024.
Colour blindness affects at most 6% of the population from my reading, and that's one type of color blindness, the rest of the issues are all under .01%!
Hopefully it's now best for all.
