Uk to USA permanent import for bike

Hi all.
Does anyone have any info, advice rough guesses on costs etc for moving a bike from the uk to the us to permanently import it there ??

Just starting to look at the rules and regs etc so any advice and guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

The "moving" (transportation) costs & procedures are not unbearable.

The issue is the byzantine/ bizarre/ expensive--and essentially impossible/ undoable--US DOT/ NHTSA + separate US EPA "conformance" requirements for "permanent" import of vehicles/ bikes not originally manufactured to US specs...
unless the specific bike is older than 25 years, in which case it's a piece of cake because no DOT or EPA import requirements then apply.

I could send you all the specific website link requirements, and explain why in
detail these are unworkable; but don't have time at the moment.

You can take my word for it--or not--or dig as deep as you like yourself in the rules & regs; and/or let others chime in, if one informed opinion doesn't work for you.

Agreed - essentially impossible for normal people. The very rich will probably be able to find a way around the regulations.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
