I shipped my bike from Winnipeg Canada to Santiago Chile with a company called Nippon Express. They basically shipped by bike "in bond" by truck to Miami US and then flew the bike to Santiago. Everything worked well and the bike arrived only 1 day late. Bikes are considered Dangerous Goods and I had some trouble finding a shipping company in Canada that would even agree to ship the bike. I finally had to work backwards, and contacted shipping company's in Santiago Chile to find out who their agents were in Canada.
The best deal I got for crating was to go a dealer than sells my make of bike to obtain a shipping carton. Every bike they receive from the factory comes in a shipping carton.
Enjoy South America. We sure did.
