Bike shipping Argentina or Uruguay to Cape Town
I'm looking for advice on shipping. My crew has 4 bikes to ship from either Buenos Aires or Montevideo to Cape Town in late February 2020. Can anyone suggest reliable companies that can offer a "turn key" service?
We would also ideally like to find a company in Cape Town that can receive the bikes and store them for 11 months.
The bikes are registered in Canada and the USA
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Shipping from Buenos Aires is probably your best bet, Javier and Sandra at Dakar Motos do a terrific job looking after travellers shipping needs.
Cape Town, no one obvious jumps out, so best to write the Cape Town HU Community and ask. Also think about how long you can legally leave the bikes in SA, and carnet issues for them.
Also see the Shipping Database, and don't forget to post your shipping experience there when done.
Good luck and please let us know how you did!

Hi Grant, thanks a lot for your referral!!!
CanScot, we didn’t received yet any message from you, please drop an e-mail at dakarmotos@hotmail.com so we can quote you and advice you properly.
Instead we have received a consult from a general cargo agent here, for send 4 bikes by end of February to Cape Town, so we guess they were talking about the same bikes… We are the only International Moto Shippers here with lots of year experience sending only bikes. You can deal it directly with us.
We also can recommend you for a company at the Cape Town end, for can receive the bikes and store them, but they will require from you to send the Carnets to them (DHL). As Grant have advised you, this normally only have a one-year valid period, don’t know if will be possible for you for storage for so long. Guess will depend if you can renew it from abroad.
If you will be at Cape Town for receiving the bikes, you can do it based on a Temporal Importation and without Carnets, just a bit more complicate and maybe more costly, don’t know for how long they will give you permits.
Maybe will be better for you to send these bikes back to the US and/or Canada now, and in one-year time you send it to Cape town or wherever you want to continue your travels.
Waiting for your email
Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
