Ask to be the "receiving agent"

We used this company in November of 2007 . They were very nice and accomadating.

However, the agents they forced us to use in Bogota tried to make us pay for a truck to haul to the bikes to a warehouse and also made us provide a carnet or libreta before they would go to customs with our papers.

The only way I would use them again would be if they made me the agent in Bogota, so that I could retieve my moto from air cargo without using an agent there.

We shipped 5 motos. Cost US$550 to US$650 each before the "extras" that popped up in Bogota.

The cheapest option is to go to the backpacker hostels and ask for ships that take bikes.

I used Stahlratte (google it) and it was very good. 250$ for the bike and 300$ for me

Mind you, these are sailboats so it will be an adventure to get the bike onboard the boat.

If you have a big/expensive bike, then I would fly it since it is not too expensive (550$ for the bike and 200$ for you) and extremely safe, fast, easy and reliable.

If you look at "shipping the bike" in the sidebar to the left you can see other peoples experiences and phone number for air shipping.

The cheapest air freight company should be Girag (or something)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
