North Sumatra to Malaysia

Hi there,
I'm travelling from Sydney to Brussels with a 110cc motorbike, and I'm a bit confused about what I read about this ferry route... 1st question, is there an official ferry between medang and Malaysia ( for myself and my moped) ?? Second question is there a custom house and an official border at the port of arrival in Malaysia ? I need to stamp my carnet de passage and my passport.

Any fresh infos will be really appreciated :-)

Cheers from Java,
Nick

Thanks. I'll do it with charka shipping. Departure every Tuesday night in Medan. You need to drop the bike Monday morning, and it's strictly not a passenger boat, you need to book a flight to Penang.

At least in February 2008, there was also a ´fast boat´, a passenger boat that went between Penang to Belawan. Dunno, if such service still operates, everything changes quickly around there. The flights would´ve been to/from to Medan, some way from Belawan.

BTW the name of the famous onion boat cargo company in Penang should probably be Cakra Shipping (..or Cakra Enterprise?)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
