Mongolia or Ladakh

Hi, I want to ship my motorcycle from Italy to Mongolia (or Ladakh) by land. You have news about transporters on this route ?
I need outward and return journeys after 15 days (more or less).
Thanks for any answer.

That is a long way to ship your bike for such a short trip and I doubt road transport exists especially to India where you would have to ship to Mumbai and travel from there, I would suggest renting a bike out there and would choose Ladakh as there is a lot more to see.

I don't agree that there is more to see in Ladakh vs. Mongolia, but Ladakh is a much smaller area, so with such a short amount of time I guess there is more to see in that sense. Fifteen days is really not enough to do anything in Mongolia.

If you were determined, maybe you can arrange to buy a bike from someone in Mongolia who has finished their trip and needs to get rid of it?

No chance to do this in India, as private vehicles have to be brought in on a carnet. But there are plenty of companies where you could hire them.

Even if you managed to ship a bike to India, you would probably spend 15 days getting it out of customs. And not much less in Mongolia.

I think hiring in Leh and doing a few trips in the area is your only realistic option.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
