2 motorbikes SA

Hi there,

We're a couple from the Netherlands and traveled with our own bikes from Amsterdam to Sydney. Our bikes are shipped back home and we would like to continue in SA, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique on 2 SA motorbikes.

At the moment we're in Johannesburg and looking for motorbikes to buy. Can anybody help us with the registration or maybe have a good motorbike to sell? We're looking for 250cc bikes. Any tips are welcome!

Cheers,

Willie and Bjorn.

Look at wilddogs.za.net website in SA. Someone there might be able to help

..... and think about something like 400cc and more ;o)

The miles in Africa are longer (endless) than in the Europe

You could also try BMW HQ in Pretoria. They sell second-hand bikes. Besides, the boss of the bike section is member of the above mentioned Wilddogs.

Friends of mine bought Honda CRF250L me in J' burg. They were as @ little over $3000 each I believe. The dealer details etc were posted on this forum about Jan - do a search and you should find them. Nor they had a few challenges getting the TRN you need to do the registration. Johannesburg motor registry refused them insisting they would only give them to purple with 6 month work visa, Cape Town was more accommodating and did it with a 3 month tourist visa. Your best source of up to date advice on this is Duncan at African Overlanders in Stellenbosch (Google to find contact details) he has helped out several people get through the system in the past.

I'll respectfully disagree with Vaufi above. I've just finished traveling Africa (on a 650) and think a modern 250 would be a perfect bike to use as long as your one up and pack light. The only place you'll suffer a bit is South Africa on its highways but as soon as you move north light weight and manoeuvrability give you do many options. Good luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
