Vehicle Value For Carnet

Does anybody know how the carnet works. Does it go on the value of just the vehicle, or does it also have to include the camper unit which is on the back of the vehicle. Need to get a Carnet for the ADAC

I have heard that you can put the lowest credible value on the carnet. My camper is 23 years old so that can be very small. However I am nervous of a carnet value and nominal insurance value that are very different. So it will be interesting to hear whate others say.

Value ... sell immediately ... or buy immediately?

The value of anything depends ..

Are you selling ... and need to do it immediately? Then the price will be low.

Are you buying.. and need to do it immediately? Then the price will be high.

------------------------
Carnet value ... if the carnet will get used at some time in the future after some travelling miles .. then the value will be less than it is now. Even if used tomorrow .. you are not going to sell it then and there... if you were you would get the low price. So what valuation would you use? A 'reasonable person' would chose the most realistic value that would apply at the time of the carnets use.

----------------
Insurance value ... when would the earliest time that the insurance could be claimed? Tomorrow? And you would like to replace the thing immediately? Then you should chose the highest value .. that will mean the insurance cost will be high. If you chose the lowest valuation then you may have to wait for the replacement to get the lowest purchase price to match the insured value.

=========== Your choice.

P.S. Good luck getting insurance for a vehicle travelling in many countries.. at anything like a reasonable cost.

The carnet value is normally the "chassis value" of the vehicle - ie without the camper. This was explained to me by Paul Gowan many years ago before all the changes at the RAC (ie when there was someone there who really knew what they were doing!)

lowest

carnet and insurance are completely seperate things, the value declared for each has no relevance for eithers individual claim.

a carnet declared value should ONLY be the basic chassis value and should not include any additional conversion values or for that matter any other add ons.
It is in your best interest to keep the value of the carnet as low as possible as the costs of obtaining a caret are directly related to the value declared for your vehicle.
There will be a minimum value for any vehicle declaration, usually in the region of 1,000 US$ or UK£
too low a value for an obvious high value vehicle may cause suspicion when using the carnet at border entry.
I recently obtained a carnet (september) and declared my 24 year old iveco at 750 UK£, this value was rounded up to a 1000 by the carnet issuer.
The UK RAC have declared that they will stop issuing carnet de passage as of end of this year, when i last checked there was no clear substitute for British registered vehicles. ?????

I am unable to find following information which seems trivial to me or i didnt search in right place

how is vehicle value considered for carnet?

my vehicle is 2011 manufactured and costed INR 5,15,000

Will the carnet cost be based on invoice value of 2011 or there is a specific depreciation that I can utilize?

My understanding with all carnets is that the motoring organisation that you buy it from is only liable for the value that you declare and the countries that you declare you will visit. If you undervalue the vehicle you will be liable for any difference that "customs" value the vehicle for and the amount that the motoring organisation has promised to pay.

.

That sounds pretty logical. And the value the customs put on it may be surprisingly high.
