Palmir Highway Visas Question

Hello Overlanders,

Question for those of you who have ridden/driven M41 in the Stans, from the UK.

Where did you get your visas?

Did you have all the permits and paperwork sorted before leaving the UK or is it possible to take care of matters on route? If on route, where exactly. Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan?

Cheers

We are looking to drive a similar route,

For Turkey & Georgia you do not need a visa in advance. Russia we are trying to get a business visa as it allows you to spend longer in the country and multiple entry. Azerbaijan we were thinking of getting a transit visa on arrival.

This website is quite useful for planning Visas - Overlanding Association

For Turkey, you need to apply for an e-visa online (Depending on your nationality, definitely required for British citizens!): https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/

and see here: Visa Information For Foreigners / Rep. of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs

You won't be able to get it at the border.

For Russia, you cannot obtain a visa outside of your country of residence. So, if you live in the UK, you need to get that sorted in the UK. If you need multi-entry you will need to get a business visa.

Tajikistan's visa and the GBAO permit can be obtained on the way. I plan to get mines at the Tajik embassy in Bishkek (Kyrkyzstan) this summer, once we get there. May be possible to get it somewhere else like Turkey.

You do not need to apply for an e-visa, but you can. Most EU citizens can still also get a visa at the border or the airport on arrival. The e-visa is definitely more convenient, cheaper and will have you across the border a lot faster and with less fuss.

From what I read in other thread, it looks like nrgizr is travelling on italian passport.
So no Visa for Turkey is needed, same as for some other EU countries.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
