leave ecuador without finishing TIP

i left Ecuador recentely without the possibility of getting my Tip stamped, as i left on a verry small boarder at the Rio napo (place called nueva rocafuerte) also in the last City there wasn´t an aduana.

so now i´m gone.

i heard storries about quite high fines if i re-entry Ecuador. but i have no exat first Hand informations. does someone know about difference if i re-enter with or without my bike? what would be an expected amount for the fine?

is there a cance to contact the aduanas and may explain this Situation?

thanks for all advices, as i might someday think of returning, not shure if on my own vehicle but u never know.

sam

Did you get your passport stamped out? Assume so otherwise there would have been a good chance of the next country sending you back. If you did then maybe you could convince them that you took the bike out at the same time, especially since there you are on the border coming back in with the same bike.

Never heard of anyone directly paying the fine, although it is commonly said to be $300+ per day. In my collection of misadventure stories is one where someone bought a vehicle down south, entered Ecuador and was pinged $18,000 for an overstay. Even though it was quickly determined to be due to aduana not cancelling the previous owners TIP it took ages to resolve and they were still "fined" several hundred dollars for no particular reason.

You could get lucky and rely on the fact that they often don't enter particulars in the system until later and that would get you in, but getting out might be a problem. Who knows

At the main crossings the aduana and immigration are quite separate so if you entered without the bike you would probably be OK

I did have an email contact with the aduana office at Quito Airport but can't find it now, but certainly getting it at least partly sorted out before you try to enter - even anonymously - would be some help in deciding

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
