Hi. I rode a Kenyan bike to Cape Town without carne. When you arrive at the Kenyan Custom you have to leave there the logbook and they will give you a temporarly export permit. It allows you to cross to the next countries like Uganda, Tanzania o Mozambique getting temporarly import permit. But the further you are from Kenya the harder is to cross borders. No problems in Zambia but In Zimbabue I had to pay a bribe (50$) and was little bit hard to go into SA coming from Zimbabue (they didn´t know about my export permit, but finally they understood my goal), but from SA it´s really easy get into Bostwana and from Bostwana is easy going into Namibia and when I crossed the SA border from Namibia, no one asked me for the logbook. It seems Bt, SA and Nam are partners and they allow vehicles go and come. So if you avoid Zimbabue, I think you are not going to have problems in East Coast and South Africa.
