Has anyone got Green Card Insurance in Italy (UK bike)

Hi all,

I have a bike stored at MotoTouring in Milan.

They offer green card insurance for bikes. Wondering if anyone has used them on a UK registered bike?

More broadly... How the hell do people with vehicles registered in the UK deal with insurance? have any of them ever made a claim?

UK insurance will generally cover you TPO for 90 days in the EU. After that you'd need separate insurance from somebody like Motocamp Bulgaria.

And if your bike is kept permanently over there your MoT will expire so you'll have to SORN the bike - meaning it's technically illegal to use even with separate insurance. UK law is quite unhelpful on this, they insist that if a vehicle is out of the UK for more than a year it must be permanently exported.

Green card "border" insurances from Motocamp Bulgaria *don't* cover UK vehicles, nor the UK as a destination for non-EU/UK vehicles. Another "Brexit benefit". Better to no longer suggest them as all it does is create extra work, having to correct erroneous information.

Hi C,

Do you have active UK bare legal insurance coverage that is valid and are the MOT/registration valid?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
