Facing problems insuring a Citroen Jumper campervan in the US
Hi,
I recently moved to Boston from Germany on a work visa, so I am currently a resident of Massachusetts. Unfortunately, most of the information about insuring a vehicle in the U.S. provided in this forum (for non-residents) does not apply to my situation.
The plan is to work in Boston for about two years, using the car on weekends and for short vacations, and then begin an extended road trip through the U.S., Canada, and South America.
We converted a 25+ year-old Citroën Jumper into a campervan in Germany, as this qualifies it for exemption from DOT regulations in the U.S. and allows for long-term import. While the import process itself has gone smoothly, I’m now facing challenges insuring the vehicle. Most U.S. insurance companies I’ve contacted say they’re unable to insure the car because Citroën is “not in their system” and therefore they can’t provide a quote.
As insurance is necessary to legally drive the car in the U.S., I would greatly appreciate any advice, recommendations, or suggestions on how to proceed.
Thank you!
