Balkans insurance for EU registered vehicle ? How much ? How easy ?

Hey all. Has anyone recently been through the Balkans ? I'm heading there in a few weeks with an Italian registered vehicle.

Is it a case of getting third party insurance at the borders ?? Any idea of costs ?

Route is Italy (EU) Croation(EU), Bosnia Hertzegovnia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece(EU)..

Thanks , Ted

Hi Ted
Did Bosnia and Montenegro this June..... Can t tell u how much as I had a green card But there were insurance booths literally next to the borders. Montenegro s one involved parking up as u crossed thru and walking across the road to an office..... Loads of foreign bikes doing this. Crossed into Bosnia near Banja Luka, people without insurance were being directed to an office a few metres around the corner.
I think there is a Croatian company lurking on this site that does green cards for the balkens....... They often pop up and offer their services.
Enjoy

As you have free Green Card insurance with your local third-party insurance (EU requirement), you should be good to go for the whole trip, as long as you stay out of Kosovo.

True that . However some Italian insurers don't extend cover to all Balkan countries. Check your insurance certificate, and you should find which countries are crossed out ( if any ) .
Ps. Kosovo charges only 15 euros at the border for compulsory insurance... For a car, bikes must be a lot less.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
