Advice on selling (importing) motorbike in Magadan (Russia)

Hi everyone,

This May/June 2019, I'll be riding from Ulan Bator to Magadan together with a friend. This is the final stretch of our trip to cross the continent, which started in the Netherlands.
From Magadan we have two options:
1. Ship our bikes back to the Netherlands.
2. Sell our motorbikes in Russia
3. Get them destroyed

Since we have no use for our bikes in the Netherlands (we both have other bikes at home), we would like to sell the bikes in Russia. Just for a friendly price, since we dont need to ship them back home anymore.
I have a Honda Africa Twin Rd07 from 1993 and my mate has a KTM 990 adventure from 2007.

Who can advise us about selling the bikes in Magadan so we can fly out of Russia without problems? The bikes need to be imported to make this possible. We dont have much time in Magadan to get things sorted as we have to fly back to the Netherlands soon after we arrived in Magadan.
Any advice is much appreciated!

Cheers Dave

This can be VERY difficult, or not!
Try contacting one of the Russian HU Communities to see what they say. They might be able to organize buyers too.

Dave my advice is to get in touch with Yuri from Links in Vladivostok:

ymelnik@links-ltd.com

He is known in the community and we also work with him in that part of the world. He will have ideas on how to do what and what is the best option for you.

You can tell Dooby from Lobagola MotoTours sent recommendations.

good luck and enjoy the ride,

cheers
dooby

Will the bikes be available in Magadan in june?
A different option can be selling them to someone who would like to ride them out of Russia.
Some friends of mine may be interested, but it would be important to know what do you mean by saying "friendly price" ;-)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
