Togo - Morocco/Europe 08/2017 - 11/2017

Heyho cruisers, let’s go!

I’m currently working in Lomé (Togo) until mid-August 2017. From late August 2017 onward, I am planning to hit the road back to Morocco/Europe zick-zacking along the coast by motorbike (probably crossing Ghana, Côté d’Ivoire, Guinea, Sierra leone, Senegal, Mauretania and Morocco). I am planning to take 2.5 – 3 months for that trip (does that suffice?)
It is my first motorbike trip and I am hereby also seeking for advice on what motorbike to buy for that route. I don’t know whether it would be possible to take a Togolese motorbike into Europe? If that was possible I could imagine to drive it all the way back home (Germanland). If not, I would want to sell it again in Morocco.

So, in case anybody wants to join for the whole or part of the trip, I think it would be amazing rocking the road together. And in case anybody wants to give me some advice for my trip, here are my questions:

1. what motorbike shall I buy for that route (West Africa) (small budget, first motorbike!)?
2. can I take the motorbike into Europe?
3. Do I need a carnet if I drive around with a Togolese bike? Where do I get it?

By the way, if anybody needs crash in Lomé, we have a couch for you and a garage for your bike/car!

Peace out and take care,
Felix

Two suggestions for you ...

Contact Rory ?Gibson, he's on here & riding home from Ghana where he was working and bought a bike, currently in Dakar I believe.

Buy a small 49cc KTM - my friend in Bamako has just completed a great trip on one and as you know they're all over West Africa so easy to fix, get parts and find mechanics. The Great Jakarta Tour of Far West Africa Part 1: Bamako to Dakar

As for the carnet, no you won't need one with a Togolese carte gris ... but taking it into Europe I have no idea!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
