South Africa to Europe. East coast. April-ish 2016

I've been riding down the west coast these last few months and had an amazing time.

Keen to ride back and could be fun to link up with other travellers for a bit if not the whole thing.

I'm going to be on a tighter budget going back so will be camping as much as possible!

Riding a DR350.

What's your timeframe?

I'm setting off 1st week June, aiming to hit Cairo 1st week Sept.

If i'm going to catch you up lets have a on route. I'll be on a KLR650 and doing a mix of camping and cheap hotels.

Cheers
Andy

I'm in Cape Town now, just arrived from 7 months in Central and South America. Planning a similar route. Would be interested in riding together for a bit. I'm on a 250.

I was thinking about doing your route up the east coast of Africa through Kenya-Ethiopia-Sudan-Egypt and then maybe through Libya to Morocco and via Ferry to Italy or Spain. I'm in Zambia at the moment.

However, I was told that Sudan is quite dangerous and a pain in the a** regarding Visa and travel permit. Further, I was told that you cannot "import" your bike to Egypt.

Did you encounter any of these problems? Would you say that it's doable to travel through Sudan at the moment? Did you encounter problems with the bureaucracy in Sudan or Egypt and if yes, how did you resolve them? Thanks in advance!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
