You will need a visa for Russia, but they are readily obtainable. E-visa is not possible as there are no e-visa crossing points into KZ. Bear in mind western cards don't work in the country, so take enough cash for the duration of your stay. You may consider it worthwhile to buy local medical insurance in the first major town on your way.
You'll also need a GBAO permit if you want to ride the Pamir highway.
You don't need a CdP in that region apart from Iran. Iran also requires a visa in advance. Turkmenistan (as I have heard) you can only enter with an official tour. The countries are safe but not so easy to travel.
