North Africa/South Europe - Spring 2018
Hi Friends,
I'm planning to visit North Africa by bike. Tour will start from Croatia, over Italy. Embarking ferry in Rome and overnight sailing to Tunis. This is when ride really starts. Touring over Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Riding Atlas Mountains, visiting any places, we like and find interesting. No strict in-advance planning (except “must-see” POIs). Return path will include ferry to Gibraltar, riding thru beautiful Mediterranean side of Spain, including Costa del Sol, Costa Dorada, Costa Brava..., and de-touring whenever we want. After the Spain will continue to France, passing beautiful south cost all the way to Italian border. We can end up our trip there, or you continue with me to Croatia – which is worth visiting as well!
Trip is approx. 3-weeks long and predicted as budget - mainly sleeping in tents, cooking for ourselves, eating local cuisine etc… However, this won’t be always possible so motels and restaurants are options too.
Time frame is Mid-April until Mid-May. Depends of the weather and own obligations.
You can join me on the trip for full-time or just partially. I’ll be happy having your company and sharing moments with other bikers.

You don't state your nationality, but you'll almost certainly need a visa for Algeria. The Algeria/Morocco border has been closed since the 1990's but you could get Ghazaouet - Almeria ferry here https://www.directferries.co.uk/alme...ouet_ferry.htm

As per some Croatian biker's forums apparently there should be no problem getting one issued in Zagreb. Don't know for other nationalities, but I believe the similar is with all Europeans.
Tunisia and Morocco are mostly open for tourists.

OP, you get that the Algeria/Morocco border is closed, right? The ferry is required, not optional.
And you're aware of the restrictions on where you can go in Algeria? Other threads on this forum address the issue.
Sounds like a great trip regardless!

Are you sure there are no problems getting a visa for you? I'm a UK citizen and it's not easy for us if entering with a vehicle and a LOI (letter of introduction) is needed, we have EU passports also, so I imagine it would be similar for you - check it out. Don't forget no land crossing Algeria/Morocco.

Thank you, both! It's very valuable information.
Will visit Algerian Embassy in Zagreb sometimes in March and verify.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
