Motor trip South America Jan 2018 - May 2018

Hi All,

I'm Willem, 32 years old and planning to do a motor trip in South America. Im not sure yet where I will start, either Bogota and than heading south or Pategonia and than heading north.

I would like to buy a motorbike and ride through Colombia, Equador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chili.

Would be great to do it together, sharing experiences and much more fun!

Let me know if you feel the same way and have kind of the same plan.

Cheers Willem

Hi Willem,
I'm Ania, 26. I want to travel by motor in South America too! And in same time more or less. I don't have any route plan yet. I'm planning to buy a motor there, I've heard the easiest way is to buy in Chile.
It would be amazing to travel together
Ania

Reasonable price ?

Your price seems thousands of dollars too high !

Have you help available to legally transfer your MC ?

Naturally everyone thinks it will be great to ride the heck out of there bike in SA and instead of riding all way back to States sell it for what they think it is worth knowing it would cost over 2 K to ship back. Paperwork and potential border crossing restrictions are issues are left for purchaser to figure out........(buyer beware).......
Are you offering any assistance and have you actual experience with all this ?

I am contemplating purchasing bike in Chile or Argentina but bike will not need to do darian gap to US but dump it or sell it.

Any others have actual experience doing this ?

I rode my KLR to Chile already and have faced decision of how to get back to US and decided to ship bike back at cost of 2400 US and even thought about abandoning my bike rather than pay the 2400 dollars but shipped it anyway.

It is my opinion wanting full price for any bike in SA which has made it down there and is now “stuck” in SA has market value way less than price one could get at home ! (Just uncertainty and official paperwork is DAUNTING and potentially disastrous!)

Having said all this, Good luck selling your bike.....

In Northern Peru heading South

Currently in Chiclayo Peru and will be heading to Lima soon for a new tire and my riding skills challenge. Meeting fellow overlanders is always a highlight. If anyone is near and wants to meet up let me know.

I also want to sell my bike 2009 vstrom 650. I left Las Vegas 2 years ago on this bike and it has been great!

My plans are very fluid, and would be willing to accommodate anyone wanting to purchase it, as much as possible. I have contact with someone in Washington State who can transfer title, and you will receive new Washington plates as well. This will give the new owner clean paperwork for border crossings.
