Looking to share shipping Cartagena to Panama March 2016

Hi all

Anyone looking to ship from Cartagena to Panama 2nd or 3rd week in March, or there abouts?

We're currently in NW Argentina (La Rioja) crossing into Chile via Paso de Sico sometime in the next week, then Bolivia, Peru, Equador, Colombia.

We missed being able to put them on the Stahlratte and no other small sail tours can take them, I've been told the Customs Officials simply say no to bikes leaving on sail boats as they're classed as cargo or some such nonsense so they're needing to be properly shipped. Ideally we'd like to ship the bikes and sail on a sail tour, but the logistics of organising that and timing it with a sail tour and not getting spanked for storage fees if they arrive too much before us and we're delayed might prove too much, there's always flying but we'd rather exhaust other avenues before we do that...

Anyway you get the picture...

That said...

I'm in contact with an agent in Cartagena who says we'll need to pop them in a container for the RORO, that's as much info I have at the moment, but I'm guessing the more bikes in a container the cheaper the cost so I'm throwing it out there to see if anyone else might like to co-ordinate with us.

I'll be making more inquires with the agent the closer we get to Colombia.

Safe travels

John & Tania

Cartagena to Colon

Hi John / Tania.
I'm also riding south to north at this time. Still in northern Chile though until next week. Have to wait for new clutch disks for my DR 650. It set me back time wise. I'll probably be in northern Colombia at the end of March or early April. If that works for you guys let me know. Also if you do end up shipping by air you could let me know what shipping agent, company you are using. I may still have to go that route if I'm running out of time.
Cheers,
Andy

Container

John, I am a few days ahead of you in southern Peru. Sorry to hear about other boats not carrying bikes across lthe Darian. There is a hostel in Cartegena that list several boats taking bikes. I will try and contact them. I have shipped via container both ways to and from SA and there's no guarantee when the containers arrives. However, a direct RORO to Panama may work. I'll be in Cartegena the mid March as well and would like to stay in the loop. GS1200.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
