July in Eastern Europe
Meself and another Horizons member are off for a pootle around Eastern Europe in July.
The only definite plans so far are that we leave the UK on the 4th July and return in early August. We are heading to Venice where we catch a ferry on the 9th to either Igoumenitsa or Patras (depending on how much fun we are having on the boat). At this point we will spend some time in Greece and work our way North East.
The options then are to either go through Bulgaria and Romania, or possibly Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia. I have read a few threads about being able to get a few weeks insurance at the borders of the non-EU countries, but those threads were at least a year old, is this still possible?
Lots of reading still to do but if anyone has any suggestions of preferred routes, places to go/stay/visit. Or if anyone wants to meet up for a or ride out it would be welcomed.
Cheers

Hi Dupleb,
was ín Romania in April with a bunch of friends for a week to ride my KTM in an organized ralley. Fantastic sights, friendly people and a great country from what I saw. All flew by too fast, so I will be back in August with a lot more time, and keep heading on to Turkey till September. I know its the other way round, but possibly meet somewhere along the way?
Cheers,
Stephan

Yes definitely meet up if we cross paths Stephan, that would be great. We will probably be well on our way back by the start of August...but maybe we will catch you in the early part of your trip?
I also contacted Andrei (Romania) from the 'helpful person' list here on Horizons.....he really does belong in that category......loads of maps with suggested routes highlighted, great information on places to visit, hints and tips on learning the lingo. Amingst many other routes, he suggested the Transfagarasan road from Pitesti to Sibiu and the joining road, Olt Valley road.
Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
