Talking Central and South America in 2015...Who's in?

Hey guys!

I am planning a trip from the United States through central and South America for 2015. I am hoping to be on the road for about 4-5 months and I have plenty of ideas, but I’m open to any suggestions as far as the exact route. I live in Michigan and will be riding south from there.

I will be on my trusty 2005 DL650 Vstrom, already geared up for the trip. I have done a few Iron butts but my goal for this trip is to take in the surroundings and experience the culture and food at a comfortable pace. I am quite adventurous and currently re-learning Spanish (Hablo un poco de espanol). As far as lodging, I usually go with a combination of hostels, camping, and couchsurfing but I am up for anything.

If anyone is planning a similar trip or foresees their route intersecting with mine, let me know! I would love to have some company. I would like to start the planning way ahead of time if possible.

Hope to hear from some of you guys soon.
-Chris

HI

Are you talking about 21st NOV 2014 or 2015 ?

I am arriving on 19AUG in Halifax, cross teh continent quickly to be in Faibanks beginning of September and be back from Deadhorse in Faibanks befroe end of September, heading south to Ushuaia.... so if its 2014 we could meet somewhere.

Please advice, your route and approx. timing.

We are heading that way as well. We are on two KLR650's.
We are currently in Radisson PQ. Working our way to Nova Scotia, then towards the HU meeting in NC.
Our email is nawt650@gmail.com the face book page is No Agenda World Tour.
Maybe see you on the road and possibly share a campfire, or a beverage of choice.
Cheers
Catharine & Les

Hey Roland
We will have passed that area by then. Headed to Boston Mass. Then onto the HU Meeting in North Carolina. Maybe see you on the road.

2014. Probably leave South Texas (Kingsville) first week in November, not on a weekend. Head to Tampico, Veracruz and then Palenque. Spend a day or two in Palenque.

Deadhorse in September can be interesting.

Hi !

I thought this forum send me a short email everytime someone comments where I have commented ...

How can that be activated?

Back to the topic:
Yes, i am starting 20AUG from Halifax, will need to hurry a little to be back from Alaska before winter approaches. Will head west fast, so taht I am not at HU in NC and will be late to join HU in Alberta. And also late for HU in California.

My website is under prep. Meanwhile you can find me on facebook at Roland Traub.

If there is somebody willing to join dalton HWY still this season ... I expect to be in Fairbanks by 5 Sept.

Roland

I'm leaving for south America September 2015 from Edmonton Alberta. I'm taking my time and plan on doing a Spanish course in baja Mexico, but yea if any of our routes align nothing wrong with grabbing a and some grub. I always like meeting new people.

Funny thread ... seems like nearly everyone are a bit out of sync ...
some a year apart, coming/going from every which way
and NO ONE has hooked up with the poor guy who posted originally. He's gone, probably over on ADV Rider by now.

It's really hard to find riding partners on line ... but hey ... go for it.

Alternative idea would be to meet up at one of the many Horizon's Unlimited Travelers meetings. They happen all over USA and Canada. Show up there ready to head South (ready to go whether you meet a travel buddy or not) ... who knows who will meet up with?

If you get along OK over a few s then maybe hit the road for a while? Nothing set in stone. ADV Rider has some big parties too.

Also, what you will find out once on the road is that you will meet other motoqueros all along the Gringo Trail. There are many choke points where travelers seem to gather or at least pass through. Just a few off the top of my head:
1. HU travelers meetings in USA or Canada
2. Ensenada, Baja Norte, Mexico
3. San Ignacio, Santa Rosalia, Mulege', Loreto, Baja Sur, Mexico
4. La Paz, Baja Sur, Mexico (ferry to Topolobambo or Mazatlan)
5. Creel or Batopilas, Copper Canyon, Chi, Mexico
6. Any of the historic Silver mining towns from Real de Catorce all the way to
San Miguel de Allende. Travelers pass through about every day. Lovely area.
7. San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. (very popular)
8. Lago Atitlan, Guatemala
9. Tikal, Guatemala
10. Antigua, Guatemala (language schools galore)
11. Panama ... waiting for Sailboat or flying out to Colombia.

And so it goes ... all the way down to Ushuaia. Hundreds of riders on the road at any one time. You will for sure run into some of them.

Safe travels all ... !y que le via muy bien!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
