hi mate i'm doing a similar trip leaving boston at the end of april 09. Will spend a couple of months in the states heading east to west heading through the south then itah and across to san fran.

From there aim to ride through baja and across to mainland mexico then down to argentina, stopping in various places in central and south america for mini holidays if you excuse the expression.

i'll be on a rough timescale to start with at least 6 months. easygoing like a at night and a friendly atmosphere.

Think there are a few people doing similar journeys or at least planned for next year. UI'm currently travelling alone am 23 but not a yobbo! will be taking a prepped dr650.

a meetup could probably be arranged with little problems, i was planning heading up to scotland for a long weekend to get used to riding the dr after spending since i was 17 on sportsbikes and off road only enduros, a chunky dualsport is erm quirky lol.

seeing as most of the people doing this trip are around the midlands maybe a pub night could be sorted out for a meet and chat to calm nerves-hype people up-frustrate at the waiting to go.

getting closer......

Plan Plan and then some!

A meetup sounds fine, Sue and I are now having to arrange our B2 visa for the US as the visa waiver programme won't work for us (we won't have return tickets) and 90 days may not be long enough. We live in Yorkshire but don't mind a run out if someone has somewhere in mind.

Stay Upright!

Hey Graham (and all interested)

Let us know when you are planning on doing your Scotland trip as I guess a meet up around this is the best way forward!

I have a spare room (and sofa/floor) if you or anyone else wants to stay. I'm in Leicester but flexible on locations?

Take care all!

Nick,
My time scale is also pretty open, my basic plan is that i graduate from uni in July and want to set off shortly afterwards. I'm only just beginning to research and plan my trip, and still no where near sorting a bike out (i doubt either my ninja or crosser would cope too well) the only definbate i have is to end up in Santiago to visit my sister. I like the idea of a meet, im in Yorkshire and/or Preston but am always up for a ride out and would really appreciate advice etc from those with experience as this will be my first trip on my bike out of Europe.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
