Worldwide insurance advice

Hi guys,
First of all I would like to apologise if I have posted this in the wrong place? Or done something else wrong! I have looked for previous blogs but they were out of date.
Insurance for the bike and us.
It seems a minefield out there regarding Motorcycle and personal insurance.
Here is what we are intending to do, maybe someone can help ?
There are 4 of us leaving the UK in the middle of April. Our trip is to Turkey. We will then leave our bikes there (with friend) and fly back to the UK. We then will fly back out in October to carry on to UAE via Georgia and Iran etc. After that we will fly back to the UK and return there in spring of 2018 to carry on from there via ship to India and on etc. East around the world.
Can anyone point us in the right direction with regards to insurance options/companies please. I expect that we will all be on BMW 1200GS, just in case you were wondering. Average age 45. Thank you in advance for any help.

to HU.

Towards the top of the page there is a blue bar thingy ... HOME GET INSPIRED etc .. You need to look through them .. lots of reading and links .. one of them

Motorcycle Insurance links | Horizons Unlimited

another

Medical Insurance links | Horizons Unlimited

Those give you some bits of info and links.

You may also need a carnet ... Iran? You will need a carnet for your vehicle. Read through the blue bar thingys to find out.
I'll recommend a first aid course .. at least a day long before you leave.

Happy reading.

Using BMW bikes, you definitly will need an extendet warrienty insurance! Those bikes are known for major break downs and are very hard to repair:

Dauertest BMW R 1200 GS Getriebeschaden - Motorrad-Dauertests - MOTORRADonline.de

This is why most of the real travelers choose cheaper but better bikes insted: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ke-do-52163-17

Hi Simonmac123 and welcome,
As has been said check other posts for current situation regarding travel insurance for UK citizens, before taking any out check it covers you for riding a 1200cc motorcycle and get it in writing, there is a very limited choice and they often require you to have a return ticket and no on the road renewal, yes it is a bloody nightmare.

Your UK bike insurance will cover you to Turkey as long as you stay in EU countries, a few non-EU in the Balkans will require you to take theirs out at the border. From Turkey onwards it is local insurance at the border only, this is basic third party cover and is all you can get, forget fully comp it doesn't exist.

Turkey will write your bike into your passport for the period of your visa and you cannot leave the country without it unless you go through some protracted process with customs, ride back to Bulgaria or Greece and leave it there.

Your plan to do this trip a stage at a time sounds good but the problem will be many countries will not allow you to leave without it and if it has been brought in on a carnet could cost you a lot of money and hassle, it is possible but has to be planned around which countries will allow you to leave it there which in Asia is few.

Hi

If you need personal travel insurance not bike then I have used LV insurance in the UK best for the slightly older as many will not even look at you.

Second year now covers riding bikes over 125cc wearing protective equipment and what is classed as a road in that country so would include mountain unpaved etc.

365 days single trip, but expires on return but it is affordable so just re book when flying out again.

Online easy to do and covers medical recovery.

Leaving bikes in Georgia for six months

Hi Mark M,
It seems that you are correct with your info with not being able to leave the bikes in Turkey and fly out and back again, thank you for this.
We may leave them in Bulgaria, as that will not be a problem.
But what about Georgia ? In 2015 Georgia lifted its Visa requirement for UK citizens. I can't seem to find anything about leaving bikes there. Do you have any ideas please ?
Thank you
Simon
