Seems to me that @Hustler added something thoughtful to the conversation. I can see that weather could cause major problems for both river guides and motorcycle guides and that that could be something to consider when thinking about guiding, no?

Ok............ Gotcha........... Don't be a motorcycle guide if it rains (assuming the pictorial contribution is relevant in the discussion...............). Very sage advice.

Or do guide if it rains................? Not sure. A cultural thing?

Seems to me perfectly valid to point out that anyone who finds it difficult to manage bad weather isn't likely to enjoy guiding at those times--particularly since they'll probably need to spend more time out in the wet, cold, heat, humidity, and/or high winds than any of their clients.

Beyond that, I doubt it will work well for any of us to start reacting with sarcasm to others who're trying to contribute.

Check out a 3 part series on Amazon Prime called Celtic Rider.
It’s a documentary about a family run motorcycle hire and tour guide business.

It paints a very rosy picture but they’ve been at it for 18 years and their clientele are mostly Americans.

Oh, it’ll cost you £1.90 - money well spent if only for the scenery.

Something to consider:
I know 2 guides and 1 motorcycle accommodation business that each had a rider die whilst in their care (so to speak).
Not only emotionally difficult but logistically too.

been done - many years ago a couple of people tied their bikes together and rigged a sail, I think on the salt flats, and possibly the Atacama. Worked well they said. Somewhere I have a pic...

Tempting, but I literally boycott anything involving Amazon for moral reasons.

To be honest, it’s more of a promotional video geared towards the American market than a documentary.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
