Found it again....
Insurance companies need to see a "crime number" from the police before they will pay up on a theft, if the Police didn't give you one, ( they should have) or you didn't report it stolen ( no comment) then you could be in the deep Doodoo.
If you are fully comp insured they are more lenient....... I crashed a bike while 2.5 times the drink driving limit, wrote bike off, breath-tested (BIG FAIL)
rang my insurance company told them I was Drunk etc when I crashed, they sent forms, paid up £1650 for a Tenere XTZ750 that cost me £980 on ebay I was fined £320 did a Drink Driving Awareness Course £140 and only got a 9 month ban and after the course my Insurance even with a DD cost me LESS than before by 25%....so with the extra they paid me on the Bike I paid the Fines/etc and was still quids in.
AND I learned a valuable lesson.
