If you are planning to ride a bike with panniers, you might get away with strapping your speargun across both panniers. (My Dakar and Touratech boxes has a width of just over 1m). You could strap it to the top of the pannier, so that most of the overhang faced forward. Otherwise you might have to mount it vertically as previously mentioned.
Is it worth trading it in for one of Rob Allen's shorter models? (90 or 100cm) 10/20cm shorter might make it a lot easy to carry.

Thanks Buswacky, i have a 90cm gun aswell and will have alu panniers so will probably do what you said. Didnt realise the back of the bike with panniers was that wide.
Its just the 110cm speargun makes shooting dolphins and whales so much easier ......only kidding.

That is why i asked.. I would go with the 900mm if you dont want to go ultra compact.. (i just dont like leaving anything out side of my boxes) ... if there is no temptation there is no walkies...
What type of panniers you going with you may be able to get a way with the 90 on the inside of you boxes along the up pipe to your silencer.. or the other side like a fake silencer (depending on bike) .. i have a tube there for my tent.. every one always asks me what the rocket launcher is for ... but it locks and it is good and secure...

I have packed a spear gun with me before. Mine is a JBL and can be taken apart I was able to put the parts in in a bag on top of the seat. I will add to be careful with the barb end it always seems to get in the way. I find the space better used for things I use more.
I do agree with spearfishing much less wastefull, more selective. Freediving and hunting for your meal just feels right. Just wach out for the sharks running them off scares off the other fish.

Thanks Zander & DLbiten
Im in the engineering game so gonna design & make my own alu panniers, I would love a pic of your 'rocket laucher' .
Ive seen a fake can on a BMW dakar before, and came in quite useful. Although would be a bit short for my needs.

Get some PVC pipe. Cap one end and have a screw on the other. Place speargun inside. Strasp to bike. If you need to you can put eye bolts etc to the pvc pipe to give you something to attach it to the bike.

I seem to only have this pic here.

I will try and get some more for you soonish (but i just moved house so it may take a while..)... if you zoom in you can see it with the end cap open which is key locked.. I have subsequently made some changes to the bike so this will change position as well (not sure where though..)
by the way here are my new homemade panniers
I will be scooping them out to fit tight to the bike in the new few weeks/months..
good luck with your build...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
