Help in Carnet

Hello everyone,
I’m Calvin from Malaysia planning to ride motorcycle from France to Malaysia. I need advice or guide in regards to carnet.
I have bought a motorcycle Africa Twin RD03 model 1988 which is now in Nantes, France with my friends who are helping to get it road-worthy. The motorcycle is officially registered under my name in France. During my journey, the motorcycle is French registered motorcycle.
I’m planning to import this motorcycle to Malaysia for good once I reach Malaysia. I also have obtained import approval from Malaysian government.
Current issue are
a) Since I’m going to import the motorcycle to Malaysia, do I still need carnet?

b) Based on my understanding, if I obtained carnet, then the motorcycle need to return to France. In my case, this bike will in Malaysia for good.

c) Can I still ride bike by passing through other countries without carnet?

d) If carnet is MUST, then from which country I should obtain carnet from? Is it from Malaysia or France?

Please help. You also can send me email directly to me aka.calvin@hotmail.com

a) If you go to a country that requires a carnet, then you have to get a carnet.
e.g. Iran requires a carnet.
b) No. You will need to prove that the bike has no outstanding carnet issues. So the carnet document will need to be fully signed off and you have the completed documents for importation of the bike into Malaysia. Talk to your carnet issuer.
c) Yes
d) France

Calvin,
Read carefully the website of the automobile association of the Islamic Republic of Iran. You will find there a link to someone who will arrange a temporary import permit for you and it / he will be waiting for you at the border. For this you will have to pay, but it means that you will not have to get any Carnet.

If you manage to find a way around Iran, then you need the same for Pakistan, India ... and possibly other countries.. Do your research, it is going to be your trip with problems you will have to solve.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
