Sold mine in Paraguay. Chile, Argentina and Uruguay are all difficult.

I found a motorcycleshop on this road in Asuncion: "avenida aviadores del chaco asuncion" (google it)

They gave me a decent price and even helped with accomodation and drove me to the airport in the morning (so they probably got it too cheap )

Unless you pay import taxes and go through official channels, it is generally illegal to sell a vehicle that has entered under a TVIP to anyone, local or foreigner, in any country.

Ways around it which usually work if handled carefully, but not all sellers, and most certainly not all buyers know the traps and tricks and some come unstuck.

Big problem is that in some home countries there is no way to assume legal ownership of the vehicle back in the home country unless you are a citizen of that country, or are actually back in the country in person and in some cases the vehicle has to be there too. Without being able to do that, the new owner is never going to be sure that border crossings and purchasing insurance will work.

Despite these problems, heaps of people are driving around in S America in vehicles they bought there so it is not impossible.

There are several ways all of which have been mentioned many times on the forum. Paraguay is the only place to my knowledge you can sell a bike and possibly Brazil because it needs no TVIP - whether you are supposed to or not I don't know. Incidentally, this also makes it a favorable place to exchange or store it. Everywhere it is illegal but people find ways around it. The usual is photoshopping the title and then seller drives it out of one customs and the buyer drives it in with the 'new' title.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
