Camping at the Isle of Man TT
Have you camped at the TT??
Thinking of going this year (for the first time) and looks like camping might be the only affordable option for accommodation over two weeks of practice and racing

I see there are a number of camp sites set up specifically for the TT at football grounds and the like

Can you advise whether any sites are better than others and what i should include in my survival kit (shelter...etc)

1) It will rain. Camp on high ground. Water proof tent and riding cloths..
2) Have you got your tickets to get across and back? If going by the ferry .. these sell out about a year before .. so...
3) Glenloug Camp site is fair. Not first class abolitions ... but OK. Make up for that by being beside the course... a long walk from a real pub, but has on site tentpub. You can catch a bus into town for a night out... It is a farm some of the time. Has a back entry that you can use when the race roads are closed off, so you can get around if you know how to avoid the race road closures. It is just west of Union Mills.
4) See rule 1. Following rule 1 should minimise the rain.
5) I'd take a GPS.
6) If you buy the race guide on the island .. do you get the radio with it? Having a radio means you get to hear about what is going on .. race call offs etc. You can bring your own. FM IIRC.
7) Camera! Charge the battery before each race day .. saves finding it flat mid race!

Rule 0) Have fun. Not hard on the Isle. 100 different brews of to try out.

Camping - if you are a party animal choose site near Douglas, if not choose one of the more distant ones. I camped two years ago at Silly Moos, near Ramsey (ie in the latter category) Well set up and reasonable value.

If you haven't bought ferry tickets yet don't panic - you can still get them at last minute if you are flexible add to pretty of departure and willing to do one of the less popular late night / early morning trips. I've also got them just turning up at the port at sailing time, they often decide they can squeeze one or ten extra bikes on.

I camped a couple of years ago at a campsite right next to Ballaugh Bridge. Run by a wonderful couple who even provided a "Socializing room" with heater and electrical charging points for free!

As has been said before, it WILL rain, so take waterproofs and a selection of waterproof bags to keep (electrical) type items dry.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
