Easy enough

Hey Mate,

I am currently doing the same thing! I have bought my motorbike in Chile and the process is very easy! All you need is to go to the Servicio de Internos Impurtos (hopefully I've spelt that right) and apply for a RUT number. This number will allow you to buy an asset in your name i.e. motorbike, car, house, boat any thing that requires a tax number (RUT)

When you are at SII and you have obtained your temporary RUT number (you will receive 2 pieces of paper with your RUT number on it signed by the person who serviced you) a card will be sent out to the address you used on the form. This card varies in time to arrive, as i have read here some peoples take 2 weeks well mine is going to take 2 months! but no worries, the Papers are valid for 6 months I believe and you will only need the card when you go to sell the motorbike.

Im still waiting for my papers from the dealer, which come tomorrow so I can register the bike and than insure it. All easy to do.

I bought a brand new Honda XR125L for around $2900 with helmet, jacket and gloves. so $5000 is heaps! I recommend buying new! as I have looked at several used bikes and while some could be good, you could also be inheriting others problems.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY A MOTO IN ARGENTINA. That's the first time I've shouted in an e-mail, grumpy old git. Ride safe.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
