Smile Some advice on ferry crossings to Africa

Hi there everyone

I'm actually not new to the forum, but have never made a post or used it since I registered back in 2009........very bad.

With all my bike travelling I've done so far, I regret not using this as a tool for further info on what, where and how to visit some places I've passed on the way.......ended up missing quite a bit.

Now, with my fiancé on her own bike to accompany me on our next voyage from Germany to South Africa via East-Africa, I need important info on where and where not to go.

If on my own, I suppose I would just have gone ahead without thinking too much about it. But, as we're now two and on separate bikes(one female rider), I'm a little worried on some of our prospects down East-Africa, especially Egypt and Sudan (including ferry from Wadi Halfa).

Any news, updates on current political situation and what Ferry is best to take from Europe to Africa would be appreciated!!

Cheers
Gert

Ps! We'll be setting off on this journey by the end of August - hopefully the rain would give us a chance through some parts of North-Africa.

Hi Gert
I read your post about your trip and was wondering how you'd got on?
My boyfriend and I are looking at going in August from London to Cape Town and we are struggling with how to get from Europe in to Egypt.

Any help would be appreciated

Lilu

Over Israel?

I shipped with CFS a few months back, contact below.

Also, consider shipping to Israel, probably costs less and far fewer problems with officials. Get them to stamp in a loose page and not in your passport or Sudan will be problematic.

But the agent in Egypt:
Currently the best company to ship with. 1st floor. Consolidated Freight Service ( CFS ).125, Hurreya Ave.El Q Bldg.Bab-SherkAlexandria - Egypt.Tel : ‪002 03 3914671‬ /2 / 4 Fax : ‪002 03 3914679‬ Mobile : ‪002 0122 240 4884 ‬Website : CFS Egypt | services that set standards

Hey Lilu (and all),

I was planning on doing a similar trip from Germany to Cape Town starting this September. I was planning on crossing from Venice, Italy to Israel by Ro-Ro. AllaLouf offers this connection.

They seem to be reselling for a Grimaldi vehicle carrier, which is not really a ferry (you can't come on the boat with your vehicle).

Also, it seems that at the moment motorcycles are not allowed to cross the regions of Egypt adjacent to the Israeli border.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
