Camping in India [... some more countries ...] Cypress
Hi!
Next year I'm going on a Enfield from India to Germany. (April to August 2002).
My route will be:
India - Pakistan - Iran - Turkey - Syria -Cyrus ...and on to Germany
Usually I do not have a problem to put up my tent in the middle of nowhere, but we have strange times. Looking into the barrel of gun in the morning is not so funny...
So, here's my question: Do you have any experience with camping/putting up a tent in the above mentioned countries? Would you advise to use a guesthouse (and what are the prices for those; just as a guideline)or do you think camping is possible/can be done? (O.K. I'll try to avoid those "Mine" Signs ;-)
TIA!
And for all of you: Merry christmas and a happy new year! Let's hope for better times for all of us, regardless of religion and color of skin.
Stefan

dear stefan ,
camping in india... some opportunities, but big crowds will gather to watch you, there are hotels everywhere and pretty cheap. less than 10US
pakistan... similar, but recent politics would advise the safety of a hotel, esp on certain sections of the karokaram highway which is incredible. less than 10-15US. great icecream in lahore.
iran... camping possible, but authorities are not too happy about it, the desert has chances to sleep in quiet hidden spots. between 10-20US depending on where you are
turkey, excellent opportunities for camping, especially in eastern turkey, but keep away from the border areas. we recieved excellent hospitality and should have stayed longer. top place. prices get higher towards istanbul.
good luck and take it easy

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
