Motorbike storage for a few months in Eastern Europe
Hi guys! I'm riding through the Baltics in mid-September, and might need to store a Honda Blackbird and panniers there for a few months if I run out of time and want to continue my trip in a few months later. Can anyone please advise where I might safely store the bike (perhaps in Lithuania/Poland/Czech Republic)? Thanks!

If you are willing to go a bit further south I can strongly recommend Motocamp in Bulgaria - Google the name and you will find details.

A lot of bike shops up in the Baltics offer "motohotel" services in the winter. About 20 euros a month for a guaranteed safe, dry, warm warehouse, usually with a trickle charger for your battery.

In Estonia I can help you out with specific places, elsewhere just try googling "moto hotel" with the city name. Or contact the big local bike parts store.

That said... if you want to leave the bike in September, and continue in a few months, then in a few months the roads may not be safe for a Blackbird.

Thanks! A motohotel sounds like a great idea if I need new tyres, and the price sounds good. I had heard that some roads close for snow. Knowing of somewhere in Estonia would certainly be a nice safety net if I run out of time. I really appreciate this great advice!

Maybe you know this already, but "closed for snow" is different from "unsafe and extremely unpleasant." Roads stay open even when featuring snow, black ice, or sub-freezing temps. If you return to Estonia in November to resume riding, your whole trip might need to center around avoiding bad weather conditions, when it should be all about zipping around on the back roads with a big grin on your face.

Thanks. A couple of months ago, I rode to Norway and left the bike there to continue my adventures. In a weeks time, I fly out and take it a bit further. I will ride it at least to Lithuania - hopefully further, and based on what you said, continue again in the Spring rather than in a few months time. Because of work, I planned in seeing as much of Europe as I can, but because of work, I'm doing it in week/fortnight holidays. I know that sounds bizarre! I'm new to this, and I am so pleased you experienced guys are sanity checking my overambition with good advice! I was really going to wing it based on what weather I encounter, what the miles are like and planning to fly back when I run out of time/courage.

Sorry to use this old thread, but probably it can be helpful for others: AnTyx, can you point us to some specific places offering this kind of service in Tallinn?

I'm ready to start a very different kind of trip in just a few days, but I already started thinking about what's next, and with the limited time I have and cheap flights from Italy, looks like Estonia can be a good place to store a bike for a while...

Yeah, absolutely. There are a bunch of places. Every big moto sales/repair shop will offer a moto hotel of some kind, because a lot of people live in apartments and don't have their own garages.

For example, this one is very close to Tallinn Airport: BIKEPoint - Talvehoid and charges 1 euro per day for a regular-sized bike, 50 euros minimum charge. They are also a retailer of used bikes (btw non-residents can buy and register vehicles in Estonia), a repair shop, and a Kappa luggage dealer - I bought my current bike from them and can say they are a decent company.

Do you have any idea about how things works in Latvia or Lithuania?

Based on flights and itineraries I am checking, an idea can be storing a bike in Riga or Vilnius, then use it, and then store it again in Tallinn...

Same weather, same problems. Google "Riga motohotel", see what pops up.
