Any families with kids on motorcycles?

So I've been searching for other families out there that are doing the motorcycle travel thing with kids. Cant seem to find any. Plenty of rver's and families in trucks, but no bikes. We have 4 boys aged 9 to 4. We have a dream to get on some bikes and start traveling when the 2 oldest get old enough to ride legally. We did the rv thing for 2 years, we are now moving to bolivia for a while to farm but we will still travel a lot and explore S. America. Any thoughts are welcome.

Not quite what you have in mind but a friend of mine recently lead a guided tour in South America which had father, son and grandson on it, their ages ranged from 80 to early 20's.

There are definitely quite a few people who have travelled on motorbikes with offspring, though maybe not in the numbers that you have

I have met various couples with one child, using a sidecar outfit either for the child on their own or parent sat with child.

Also currently on the road are the Borden Family from America. Some of the nicest people you could meet.

Oh that's a topic I'm highly interested in aswell. We only have one boy though, for now he's keeping me on my toes alright, as he's only 10 months old


We are in the early stages of planning an overland trip from Europe to Mongolia and are thinking of a Ural sidecar outfit for Dad und Bub and a bike for me, when he's roundabout 5 years old.

But if anyone knows any more blogs or websites of biker families, I'd love to know about them, too!

I am thinking about taking my 7 year old daughter off for 6 weeks this year or next. She will be pillion on my flying brick! I am looking at givi kid seat and leather made for her

We have 2 boys aged 7 and 9 and is planning a Route 66 trip next year. (They will be 8 and 10 by then) We currently live in HCMC Vietnam so biking is a way of life for us theses days. Ok...the bikes are only 125 and 150cc but in daily traffic you don't need much more.

We do pillion each and every day...rain...sunshine...day...night...anything so they are used to it by now. Me and my wife are both avid riders and also travellers so want to start doing it with the family.

Yes there are risks and being South African there is not much more that can be said about road safety.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have seen families traveling like this in several South American countries.

I have also seen the woman preparing yerba mate and serving the man, while they are riding a motorcycle with 3 children on board. Thermos is tucked under her arm while she pours and presents the matera (gourd cup) with bombilla (metal straw) to the man who slips from the straw.
The children are usually two forward and one aft.

New Royal Enfield motorcycles and side cars are now being assembled in Layboulaye, Argentina. Royal Enfield Argentina

I visited the factory and spent the day with he owner's daughter - who runs the show. The bikes are authentic and not that expensive. I am considering purchasing a Royal Enfield made in Argentina from the factory in Laboulaye with a side car of course , in the near future. Might be a way to ride with children - Mom and Dad each have a Royal Enfield with side car and voila - kids ride free.

Hi I have taken by 8-year-old daughter to Prague in the Czech republic this August on my bike from Salford in the UK. I used a Givi S650 child seat.

we rode about 400 miles (640 KM) a day and both had a fantastic time. it took us 3 days to get there!

I have posted on the BBS elsewhere about it, I am sure you can find it.

I had a suit make for her so she was safe and dry.

I'd love to hear of any sidecar outfits who are traveling with kids. I'm planning to ride to Turkey and back with wife and 2 kids but am finding 2 seater sidecars pretty difficult to find or have made. Any advice greatly appreciated.

The rules about children riding pillion vary between countries so best to check before you travel - don't assume.
When my daughter was 6 (UK), the only rule was that she had to touch the rear footpegs so I bought clamp-on type pegs that custom bikes use & that was good enough.
We moved to live in Bavaria, Germany where their age limit was 8!

In the 80s, having a sidecar was popular and we had a Cambridge which took child seat in the back + a Rottweiler in the front seat. Join the sidecar club and get assistance if you want to tour on 3 wheels. It's a fantastic way to take the family but it puts a lot of strain on the bike and suspension - make sure it's set up correctly
