More places shown on that map than most Americans are aware of but they are probably wondering where the British Isles have gone

The old 51st state is too small to get on the map at that scale, it's only an air base plus the Queens house and a bit of room for that bloke they always ask you if you know from Scotlandcestershire.

Similarly but achingly funnier is "Team America, World Police", a DVD by the same guys who brought us South Park. Using puppets, they take the mickey from International Rescue as well as the USA's war on terror policy. Absolute inspired brilliance I think. Highly recommended. Lindsay.

There is definitely some truth to the stereotype. I think a lot of the ignorance comes from Republican evangelicals, and the rest is "we are the best syndrome."

It is completely mind boggling to me how the Republican party has tricked such a large number of $20-30k wage earners into thinking they care about them. lol

Some how they have tricked them into thinking that what is good for millionaires is also good for minimum wage earners! lol

I love old maps.

Think how different the last 150 years might have been with Californian gold and Texan oil going South instead of North East.

My Great Uncle has a UK road atlas from about 1935. We've tried following bits of it by GPS (easier) and by non-electronic methods (almost impossible once the planners have gone to work on the signs: WTH do they signpost things like the LOCAL leisure centre but not the next town??? ) which makes for some interesting little rides.

Gone down and been drowned... together with the TITANIC regarding the global warming... .. according to the yanks ?
well yeah.. at least some one must have pulled the draining plug in the bathtub...
but may that spot where the Queen came from may just vanished in the mist... :confused1:

cause this England or what ever, is not on that map any more...
maps are made by the authorities or by FOX TV... and they are always right..
so... that has to be right anyway... that's official...

but most important...
yeah thanks to the lord...
this holly England has at least not became part of this evil doer and troubling Kraut's movement ... across the pond... or did it in the end ? :confused1:
yeah old grandpa would been yakking about when he was pissed... being a hero and saved the world...

ahhh yea ... to put you Brits at rest... "don't mention the war" ...

Cricket Explained

Hi , fine wine tonight... on the north coast of Spain. I miss Buenos Aires....As an American - North American that is, I am always ready to expand my understanding of other lands and cultures of the world. As a kid I had a set of books entitled Lands and Peoples that really helped me understand the world maps previously posted on this thread. Because I had dreadful study habits my Dad made me read from the Lands and Peoples Books throughout jr high school career.

Sports played by the peoples of the world always intrigued me. One burning question: (How is Cricket played? ) has gone unanswered for years was finally answered earlier today by finding this simple video on YouTube.

Cricket Explained - YouTube

So if any of you reading here have ever wondered about Cricket and how it is played....here you will find the answer.

Oh man, thanks for that info, but you went way toooooo far.

As I Spaniard, I admit the many mistakes we made in the past colonial times, the forced conversion ("kiss the cross or die"), etc... but at least we did not brainwash them to hit a ball with a stick in an ununderstandable game! I'd rather go to the Inquisition Tribunal!

No kidding, I will watch it with interest, I've tried to understand it and got no clue why they suddenly get happy for no apparent reason!

PS: Before anyone tries, since long ago it is forbidden to throw goats from the bell tower in all Spain...

Amigo very good points indeed

Obvio mi amigo...! Yes estebangc, , until I watched the video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNdCn...eature=related

I too, did not understand why cricket players were exhibiting sudden bursts of happiness characterized by laughter and back slapping. The video is very informative. I laughed a lot.

And, your other point about the brainwashing required to have someone enjoy playing a ununderstandable game is very well taken. I like the word ununderstandable and hope you don't mind if I use it frequently.

And, thanks for the tip about not throwing goats from the bell towers of Spain because it has been declared illegal by the Spanish authorities. It is always good to keep up and abide by the law, especially Spanish law.

No offense to any Brits who may be reading here as, at the moment, I too am on your side of the pond.

Salud mi amigo where are you in Spain?

Now... some more maps...
which is proofing that "some" of the US-Americans are well aware about the geography in the world...
about how they would like to change the world, so it will match there view...
like changing the world layout of Disneyland for easier access...
if needed.. by force too...

yeah I can hear them chiselling in the underground...

so... if any one of you planing further trips across the east... you may have to hurry...
you may suddenly will find your GPS waypoints gone out of place, are wrong and/or changed regarding the border posts...
and visa regulation...

just a add-on to the view of how the evil-doer-theme-park boundaries may get stretched like elastic cords...
will give you a lot more fun in the next upcoming decades...

(yeah.. don't you worry... for sure... there will be a easy, permanent... discounted VISA entry fee's for US passport holders anyway, that's the idea... )

Perfectly Ununderstandable

Thanks Spooky, is there, perhaps a YouTube video that might

explain your map? Or, could you enlighten me? It all seems very

reasonable but I find it philosophically

ununderstandable.

Viejo, you can use it and even abuse it! As you know the Spanish word is exactly the same (well, almost, "incomprensible"), but this sounded more cacophonic, part of the joke. (Me, no native "espiker", don't have to tell it. Come from Seville (never really threw goats there ) but live abroad; enjoy your time in Spain).

Please, no offence intended at all, obviously it's just joking: I have had British friends playing cricket and enjoyed to see them having so much fun ... while I was soooo puzzled . In India I was answered once "cricket is much better understood if you know the history of the game"; at that point I thought "is he mocking me or just no chance then?". I think we all feel both interested/intrigued and stupid because you don't get a clue. Fortunately, this video clarifies completely the rules, being it so easy, how come idiot me I could not find it "out" (or was it "in"?). Strongly recommend it.

Esteban

PS: The new maps... I also got the possible changes, but maybe I did not smoke the right grass to unununderstand it (don't smoke indeed). No resentment involved, I assume.

spooky map

To the cousins on the old side of the sea, please be careful of throwing stones.Let's consider that maybe the way the map is now could stand some changes. Yugoslavia, the combination of India/Pakistan, the Sudan/South Sudan/Dafar mess, Ireland North and Ireland South, Palestine/Jordan, need I go on? I remember when red on the map was used for only for the British Empire. Eric

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
