The World according to the U.S.A.... :)

This did make me chuckle.

I know full well that all of my American friends would laugh at this. It ain't baiting or trolling, just a bit of fun. We all know it's not true of our great friends over the pond who use this site.

More places shown on that map than most Americans are aware of but they are probably wondering where the British Isles have gone

Threewheelbonnie 16 Oct 2011 08:46

The old 51st state is too small to get on the map at that scale, it's only an air base plus the Queens house and a bit of room for that bloke they always ask you if you know from Scotlandcestershire.

An alternative to the above.....

Similarly but achingly funnier is "Team America, World Police", a DVD by the same guys who brought us South Park. Using puppets, they take the mickey from International Rescue as well as the USA's war on terror policy. Absolute inspired brilliance I think. Highly recommended. Lindsay.

There is definitely some truth to the stereotype. I think a lot of the ignorance comes from Republican evangelicals, and the rest is "we are the best syndrome."

It is completely mind boggling to me how the Republican party has tricked such a large number of $20-30k wage earners into thinking they care about them. lol

Some how they have tricked them into thinking that what is good for millionaires is also good for minimum wage earners! lol

I love old maps.

Think how different the last 150 years might have been with Californian gold and Texan oil going South instead of North East.

My Great Uncle has a UK road atlas from about 1935. We've tried following bits of it by GPS (easier) and by non-electronic methods (almost impossible once the planners have gone to work on the signs: WTH do they signpost things like the LOCAL leisure centre but not the next town??? doh) which makes for some interesting little rides.

Yeah.. I can't really blame all those Mexicans going north and RE-CLAIMING what was taken by force.

As a Brit, I can't really take the moral high ground when it comes to Colonisation, but at least we gave it all back... :innocent:

Yep, we introduced beer drinkers the Australian climate doh:rofl:

We all have a history...

I prefered the old version in which the newers are based on: "The World according to Ronald Reagan"

http://pacopedia.files.wordpress.com...ld-reagan2.jpg

It was pretty funny in the context of the Cold War, when you were one one side or the other or... were a poor 3rd world country where the battle was taking place (reminder: we are happy to have the US was protecting all us from the evil USSR, buying their bonds, true). The poster was also nicer because it read "Reagan's vision" (hey, he wanted all reports written in just 1 page, so pretty simplistic approaches), but not the "Americans" as a whole.

We all have our own heritage from our good and actions in the past (aka colonialism and the like), like South Americans in Spain, Pakistanis and Indians in the UK, Algerians in France... and Mexicans in the US. Just like that, get the most of it, blame no one. bier (I'm not exactly a fan of the US foreign policy, but... do any of us imagine a mulatto primer minister in the UK or a gypsy in Spain? Should take that into account as well when it comes to the American people...)

Cricket Explained

Hi , fine wine tonight... on the north coast of Spain. I miss Buenos Aires....As an American - North American that is, I am always ready to expand my understanding of other lands and cultures of the world. As a kid I had a set of books entitled Lands and Peoples that really helped me understand the world maps previously posted on this thread. Because I had dreadful study habits my Dad made me read from the Lands and Peoples Books throughout jr high school career.

Sports played by the peoples of the world always intrigued me. One burning question: (How is Cricket played? ) has gone unanswered for years was finally answered earlier today by finding this simple video on YouTube.

Oh man, thanks for that info, but you went way toooooo far.

As I Spaniard, I admit the many mistakes we made in the past colonial times, the forced conversion ("kiss the cross or die"), etc... but at least we did not brainwash them to hit a ball with a stick in an ununderstandable game! :( I'd rather go to the Inquisition Tribunal!:hang:

No kidding, I will watch it with interest, I've tried to understand it and got no clue why they suddenly get happy for no apparent reason!

PS: Before anyone tries, since long ago it is forbidden to throw goats from the bell tower in all Spain...
